Diversity- foundation of social progression

Diversity is beauty of nature, without one the monotony might have pushed towards a bizarre lifestyle. The society is a combination of diverse components, say it is human itself or community life or nations at large. Diversity bestow the society with richness of cultures, languages and thoughts those composes uniqueness and individuality among otherwise ‘alike’ lifestyles.

However, there are forces and factors that compel individuals and societies look alike, act alike and promote tolerance towards ‘common’ and refute the ‘different’. These forces come from various sources, the largest is divine structure of religions, man-made customs and rituals. There are factors that pushes individuals to further advocate and force thinking of society towards a certain behavior and control the thinking. These forces and factors though shape up and create segments, groups, social classes, sects and even nations, most of them result from a ‘push for common’ and deny different. On the other hand, thankfully diversity plays its role and even a push for common result in creating large segments of unique thoughts, classes and communities classifying human into natural clusters.

The trouble creates when a group of different thoughts and behaviors strives to survive and sustain themselves in the larger group of common thoughts. There are examples where the minority group mostly adapt and adopt the lifestyle over the years and if there are no large conflicts, mostly embrace the common thoughts to survive. Such a process is nevertheless less painful and damaging to diversity that is very much essential for survival and progression of a society. History is evident of plethora of such societies and cultures that eventually became colorless and bizarre over the years that resulted from monotony of everything. Such societies also failed to prepare and respond to disasters, for sure such societies were unable to complete and cope with twenty first centuries fast paced and technology wise world.

Not to mention, the factors responsible for establishing commonality in thoughts, behaviors and actions in past are struggling continuously to sustain and maintain the control as the assumed risks of tolerating different are high for factors. Such efforts are enforced and dictated to protect common interests and diverse yet minority groups are demanded to follow those thoughts and behaviors. The conflict happens when minority groups have firm uniqueness and refute to follow the commonality. The freedom of expression, assembly and opinion are the first rights that are snubbed by the superior majority- the conflicts are not settled, the right to live is compromised.

Diversity is a necessity for every society because diversity provides thread and fabric for basing a society, diversity collects thoughts, opinions, expressions and individuals at a common platform. Diversity develops art, literature and creates philosophers, thought leaders and agency for social change. Societies that promote diversity, believe and exercise diversity inclusive approaches, reaches progress goals much faster than societies that discourage diversity. Diversity layout foundation for tolerance and acceptance for uniqueness, individuality and eventually a basis for peaceful communal living.

A little twist in perspective may change a whole story and diversity is that twist undoubtedly. The perspective that thought leaders and followers of a common lifestyle were once considered unique and diverse in another larger group may provide a chance to societies to reshape social bases and restructure the practices towards minorities. Norms that become culture are distantly diverse actions that are adapted by groups that share common thoughts and lifestyles or are bound by geography, climate or other conditions.

Thinking of a society where everyone agrees with everyone, shares alike lifestyle will bore the thoughts, yet a diversity inclusive society will provide opportunities for reasoning and arguments, disagreements and solutions for complex social issues that may happen over time.
